MANUFACTURING EMOTION
DECXII is a furniture and product design brand exploring the relationship between emotion and manufacturing.
Founded by Chinese designer Hu Yuanlin in 2025, the brand believes that design begins with human experience — with the emotions, rituals, and ways of living that shape everyday life. Manufacturing, by contrast, is often defined by systems, efficiency, and logic. Through its work, DECXII seeks to create a dialogue between these two worlds.
Working primarily with recycled plastic-based materials and robotic additive manufacturing, the brand develops furniture, lighting, and spatial objects that combine advanced production technologies with contemporary design language. Rather than allowing technology to dictate form, each project uses manufacturing as a tool to create objects that carry emotional value, material character, and lasting relevance.
For DECXII, sustainability is not an added condition but a catalyst for innovation. Through an ongoing exploration of circular materials, digital manufacturing, and contemporary aesthetics, the brand is committed to developing a long-term design language for a future that can be both materially responsible and emotionally meaningful.
MATERIALS NEVER END
OUR RESPONSIBLE APPROACH
At DECXII, sustainability begins with the relationship between material and design.
Our products are developed using recycled plastic-based materials that are collected, processed, and transformed into feedstock for additive manufacturing, allowing discarded resources to re-enter production in a new form.
By building objects layer by layer, additive manufacturing uses material only where it is structurally and functionally required. This reduces waste while expanding possibilities for form, customization, and material efficiency.
Beyond individual products, we are interested in how digital manufacturing may contribute to more distributed and circular models of production. Designs can exist as digital assets and be produced closer to where they are needed, reducing transportation while increasing flexibility and accessibility. At the same time, materials can be recovered, reprocessed, and continuously reintroduced into future production cycles rather than being discarded.
For us, responsible design extends beyond the object itself. It includes the materials we choose, the way products are manufactured, and the systems through which they continue to exist.
HU YUANLIN
FOUNDER, DESIGNER, AND AUTHOR
Hu Yuanlin is a Chinese designer and the founder of DECXII.
Founded in 2025 during his undergraduate studies, DECXII began as a way to translate observations, emotions, and everyday experiences into objects. For Hu, design is not separate from life, but a continuous process of noticing, questioning, and responding to the world around him.
His work explores the relationship between people and production. He believes that design is ultimately about emotion, rituals, and ways of living, while manufacturing is often defined by systems, logic, and efficiency. Through DECXII, he seeks to create a dialogue between these worlds through material, form, and making.
For Hu, every project begins with a spark — a memory, a conversation, or an unexpected moment in daily life. These fragments become the starting point for new explorations of meaning, material, and contemporary living.
